On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, with the participation of 33 women, carried out an activity in the countryside of Daraa, aiming at strengthening the role of women in society and introducing the attending women to this International Day. The volunteers also talked about women’s rights and the importance of achieving equality for them. During the activity the women reviewed their success stories in their lives.
Concept of International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is on the eighth of March, and it is a national holiday in many countries, and it is held to honor the achievements of women and to promote their rights, and this day has been adopted by the United Nations since 1975 , when it appeared at the beginning of the twentieth century in all of Northern America and Europe, and since that time, Women’s Day has become a global date for women in all countries of the world.
The importance of International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is an occasion to celebrate progress towards ensuring women’s right to equality in all parts of the world, in addition to empowering them, and recognizing their accomplishments. That is why international organizations such as UNESCO are interested in promoting all areas that would achieve gender equality. In addition to that, the United Nations Charter was issued in 1945, which was the first international agreement affirming the principle of equality between women and men.
