Life-saving awareness messages are a must in areas contaminated with war remnants and unexploded ordinance that shaped and colored in types attractive for everyone, particularly the children.
In Sawida, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent volunteers have disseminated the three fundamental messages: “Don’t come close, don’t touch, inform concerned authority” to (1139) children with age group (6 – 12 years old). They came to know all types of war remnants, as well as the correct behavior when encountering them. They also learned to call (108) once they see a strange object.
Games and activities are essential tools to deliver the information
The educational sessions (39) were full of entertainments, discussions and games, through which the volunteers managed to correct the misconceptions and taught the children the right steps to stay safe and avoid strange objects.
Gifts are distributed at the end of the sessions
In the three villages, SARC volunteers concluded their raising awareness interventions with gifts and brochures distributions that enhance the safety tips in children’s minds.
It is worth mentioning that the volunteers are planning to reach more returnees’ areas to promote awareness on war remnants with the support of the ICRC.
