Health promotion sessions contribute to spreading awareness messages about various topics such as; safe waste disposal, hand washing, lice and scabies prevention, and safe water series, as well as raising awareness on the precautionary measures against coronavirus (Covid 19).
Moreover, the volunteers take account of the needs of different age groups when implementing activities, specially children, who need simplified information and constant repetition to learn and be motivated to commit to healthy behaviors.
The awareness train game
The Syrian Arab Red Crescent volunteers held an intervention for two and a half months in several villages within the area, and concluded their activities at the Environmental Club in Eraa town in Swaida countryside with an awareness-raising train game, through which, 90 kids received important educational messages that were contained in each stop of the train.
The first stop
With Sate’a character, the children learned the importance of maintaining personal hygiene through the correct habits such as regular bathing and hands washing, in addition to the right way of tooth brushing and how to maintain the health of teeth.
The second stop
The children were able to distinguish between lice and other insects with the help of a box that contained a set of different items, and learned what to do in case of lice infestation and how to prevent it.
The third stop
Through a story told by Kiki’s character, the children learned the methods of coronavirus prevention, and the importance of adopting the precautionary measures against it.
The fourth stop
The children moved in groups within a labyrinth, in which they learned about safe waste disposal, as well as the right way and key times for washing their hands.
The volunteers concluded the sessions with distributing colorful story books, and sanitary items to the children (soap bars – lice prevention sprays – towels) that help with prevention and limitation of diseases, with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
