Press Release by Syrian Arab Red Crescent

Syrian Arab Red Crescent is ready to deliver the first urgent humanitarian aid convoy to Ar-Rukban Camp in South Syria.

Damascus, March 13, 2018

Approved by the High Relief Committee in Syria, SARC calls everyone to secure necessary guarantees for a safe and devoid of targeting passage in order to dispatch the first humanitarian aid convoy to Ar-Rukban Camp, and to carry out a humanitarian assessment for Syrian citizens residing in the camp and in collaboration and coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross and UN agencies.

More than 20,000 civilians live in Ar-Rukban camp under deteriorating humanitarian circumstances where they suffer a severe lack of nutritional food and the basic medical services are almost non-existent. Clean water is reported to be deficient, and sewage network is not adequate.

The Syrian Arab Red Crescent reiterates the importance to getting adequate guarantees for safe and devoid of targeting passage. It calls all parties to protect SARC and all aid workers and humanitarian facilities.

SARC reminds all parties that it is a neutral and independent organization guided by the seven fundamental movement principles of Red Cross and Red Crescent. SARC volunteers and employees stand on full alert around the clock to alleviate sufferings of the most vulnerable people all over Syria.
