“Learning about the cholera symptoms in an awareness session helped me realize the infection when I had it,” said Faizeh (59 year) who completely recovered from cholera disease, which is still spread among locals.
Faizeh attended one of the awareness sessions carried out by the #SyrianArabRedCrescent (SARC) in #Lattakia, and when she had the infection she could easily prepare the oral rehydration solution and started the treatment steps that were explained by the volunteers. Then she went to the hospital to make sure that she is doing well with the treatment, and she did recover thanks to the rapid procedures as she said.
Once the cholera first cases were detected in the country in Sep 2022, SARC has organized a response to help curb the spread of the disease through raising awareness among people and detecting the infected cases in its medical facilities (hospitals, clinics and mobile clinics).
In #Quneitra, SARC volunteers spread key awareness messages in schools, where 9475 students and teachers learned about the disease in Oct 2022, with the support of #UNICEF.
In Dec 2022, the SARC has carried out 3 training courses in #Daraa, where 65 volunteers and medical educators have got the knowledge about cholera: symptoms, protection procedures and treatment. The courses were supported by the #GermanRedCross
