“Hadn’t it been for getting the insulin for free, I would have had to make choices between buying food or medicine,” said Mahmoud, the 52-year-old patient who visits the SARC Shatha’s dispensary in Hama.
Mahmoud has been suffering from type-1 diabetes for 30 years; he visits the SARC dispensary in Shatha to get periodic checkups and insulin, along with other medications that prevent the disease complications such as diabetic neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy, and diabetic foot.
“The dispensary reduced the burdens of traveling long distances and the medicine high costs that I cannot afford; therefore, it’s normal to come and get health care services from this health care point,” said Mahmoud, who follows the internist’s advice and takes care of his health.
Supported by the Danish Red Cross, the SARC dispensary in Shatha, (90 KM away from Hama), offers medical care services to the residents and arrivals. The dispensary welcomed more than 4300 patients during the first half of 2022.
Dr. Fahed, an internist in the dispensary, said: “We receive everyone in need, regardless of where they come from, and provide them with health care services as much as possible. We do our best to meet their needs and to ensure their dignity.”
