Happiness knocked the doors of people in skeleton buildings on the night of the new year!

On the last day of the last year, where people were busy in preparations to celebrate the new year, SARC volunteers were responding to the needs of the most vulnerable people, who live in inadequate buildings, in Jaramana town.

For five days, the volunteers have been working tirelessly from 9.00 AM until 8.00 PM. They have distributed food parcels, supported by the Action Against Hunger Organization, to the displaced families, who came from other governorate seeking safety in Rural Damascus and resided in skeleton buildings in the area.

Assessment mechanism

Within 30 days, the volunteers managed to assess the families’ status based on the following criteria:

  • Families displaced from other governorates
  • Families residing in an inadequate building
  • Families with no income sources.

The targeted people have received a text message informing the time, place and requested papers. This mechanism is adopted in order to avoid crowding and in commitment to the precautionary procedures against coronavirus, and to save people’s time.
