Hassan proudly displays the medals he earned during his days as an athletic champion, serving as a reminder of the good times before he lost his leg due to an injury sustained during the crisis in his hometown Homs.
His health further deteriorated when he was diagnosed with diabetes, but today, the fifty-year-old father of 8 has returned to his favorite sport as a supervisor, after having a prosthetic limb fitted by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent prosthetic center in Damascus, allowing him to regain his ability to perform most of his daily activities.
In addition to his role in sports, Hassan and his wife have opened a small clothing business in their home with the help of a grant from the SARC.
The grant, distributed in 2022 to 340 individuals from returning families and those receiving physical rehabilitation services, aimed to create job opportunities and improve living conditions for recipients, with the support of the International Committee of The Red Cross.
