Clashes prevent humanitarian aid convoys from reaching people in need

January 28, 2015

1 min read

On 27/8/2014 a Syrian Arab Red Crescent humanitarian aid convoy was exposed to mortar shells which hindered the SARC team’s work.

The convoy had reached the northern areas of Daraa governorate with 14 trucks loaded with 3000 food parcels and 3000 hygiene kits.

The shells started falling in the vicinity of the convoy during the unloading process, which led to the injury of one of the workers from the local community and serious injuries to five other workers. SARC Swaidaa branch volunteers had to provide immediate first aid services. Also one of the trucks was partially damaged by shrapnel.

It is worth mentioning that the SARC team entered the area on Wednesday 27/8/2014 at 5:00pm and did not leave until the next morning 28/8/2014 at 7:00 am after taking all possible safety procedures in coordination with the operations room at the SARC headquarters.

Then, the SARC teams unloaded the rest of the humanitarian aid in a safer area. The distribution of these materials started on Sunday 31/8/2014 to people in need.

We remind that SARC is a neutral humanitarian organization working to support the most vulnerable people in order to decrease the suffering. Its volunteers should be respected and protected
