Alaa, the 8 years old boy from Khan Shaikhoun is now recovering from hepatitis A, which he was diagnosed with during the visit of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent volunteers to their town.
“We knew about my son’s illness when the health educator visited our house and noticed the symptoms,” said Alaa’s father,
and added that they had to go to Hama to make the lab tests needed to confirm the diagnosis, given its unavailability in their area, and then continue the treatment process in the Syrian Arab Red Crescent dispensary in Khan Shaikhoun.
Alaa’s family is an example of many returnee families in Idleb countryside, facing difficulties with access to medical services, clean water, and electricity, among other vital services.
