Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women as one in 12 women got breast cancer. The early detection of the cancer helps effective treatment and increase the recovery opportunities.
SARC’s activities during October 2021
The Syrian Arab Red Crescent have organized raising awareness campaign about breast cancer, symptoms, self-examination, early detection and risk factors.
In addition, many interactive sessions were held to enhance the knowledge and correct the misconceptions related to the disease.
Many services have been provided also such as: home visits to women with breast cancer, and group meetings, as well as educational activities in the schools.
SARC volunteers organized also a day journey participated by children and youth groups to distribute raising awareness messages to the women in homes.
The medical compounds of SARC received all women wanting to get the mammogram examination.
When you have to begin breast cancer screening exams and test?
You need to go through medical examination when feeling one of the following symptoms:
A breast lump or thickening that feels different from the surrounding tissue
Change in the size, shape or appearance of a breast
Changes to the skin over the breast, such as dimpling
A newly inverted nipple
Peeling, scaling, crusting or flaking of the pigmented area of skin surrounding the nipple (areola) or breast skin
Redness or pitting of the skin over your breast, like the skin of an orange
Making changes in your daily life may help reduce your risk of breast cancer:
Maintain a healthy lifestyle
Breastfeeding helps reducing the risk of breast cancer
Monthly screening
Ensure getting the mammogram examination every two years after forty.
