Damascus) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) organized a training workshop for SARC communication officers on the principles of operational communication. The workshop took place between the 28th of September and the 1st of October and brought together 14 communication officers from all 14 SARC branches in the country’s governorates.
The main aim of the training workshop is to provide the essential skills to SARC communication officers to enable them to carry out their duties effectively. To do so, the workshop focused more on practical skills rather than the generation of content.
The head of training unit for the Middle East and North Africa and the Americas, Mr. Hicham Hassan, the communication team of the ICRC and SARC’s Communication Coordinator, Mrs Vivian Toumeh facilitated the training sessions of the workshop.
One of trainers emphasized the importance of developing a plan of action in order to have an integrated form and content for all communication teams at the SARC’s branches.
The workshop covered many topics, includingoperational communication, international humanitarian haw (IHL), how to develop key messages, how to develop an operational communication plan of action, and how to use social media as a tool of operational communication.
“It was an opportunity for me to develop my writing skills, style, and methods of expression through trainers who did not restrain from providing us with information and advice,” said Neven Haddad, Communciation Officer of Rural Damascus branch.“I was happy to meet other commmunication officers who work in the various SARC branches as this helped me learn from their different experiences,” she added.
