December 14, 2020
in Rural Damascus
2 min read

Over 16 days, 6 mobile medical teams have worked on raising awareness about gender-based violence (violence against women) among hundreds of women in Rural Damascus.
Women participating in awareness sessions showed a great interaction and learned about their rights to education, inheritance and decide upon her marriage, as well as the early marriage and its social and health consequences.
Mobile Medical Teams’ services include health care, free medicines, psychological and social support, pregnancy care and health education, with the support of UNFPA.
Violence against women has inflated
In light of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the United Nations’ reports have shown an increase in all types of violence against women, especially domestic violence as a result of bans taken by many countries to confront the covid-19 pandemic.

What is the sixteen days campaign?

It is an international campaign to confront violence against women and girls. The campaign started on November 25, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and concluded on December 10, which is the International Day of Human Right

Types of violence against women:

• Physical violence (hitting, burning …)
• Sexual violence (rape, harassment, sexual exploitation, marital rape …)
• Psychological violence (abuse, neglect …)
• Economic violence (deprivation of inheritance …)
