The Novo Project addresses a critical need: helping families rebuild their lives after displacement.
Many young people, like Amir (26), faced difficulties upon returning to their homes in Al-Sultaniyah, rural Homs. With limited job opportunities, supporting his family was a challenge.
“Renovating homes and repairing tools was crucial,” Amir explains.
Previously a laborer, his income fell short.
The Novo Project, supported by the Danish Red Cross in 2023-2024, intervened.
It equips young men and women with vital skills: psychological, social, personal, and technical expertise related to entrepreneurship.
Amir is one of 380 beneficiaries in Homs. Now a business owner, he proudly states, “Month-end anxieties are gone. I can provide for my family whenever needed.”
Nidal (29) exemplifies another success story.
Working in the laundry since his youth, financial pressures and the burden of supporting his parents and sisters caused him constant anxiety.
The project’s training and scholarship program was a turning point. Nidal used the funds to purchase a sewing machine, washing machine, and battery.
“Production soared, and my income improved significantly,” he shares.
“Now, I can even plan for the future and marriage!” His dream: expanding his laundry business across Homs.
Similar success stories unfold in Aleppo. Abdul Qader (33) rose from “a simple worker” to a partner in his workplace.
The training program honed his business acumen, allowing him to launch a laser-cutting machine project in Arqoub.
His plans include expanding capital and product lines. He’s one of 362 beneficiaries in Aleppo.
Hiba (33) also found a new purpose. This mother of two struggled to find suitable employment.
“It felt like a wasted effort,” she recalls.
The Novo Project’s entrepreneurship training ignited a shift in mindset, encouraging her to start an institute offering mental arithmetic and Rubik’s Cube courses in Salah al-Din, Aleppo.
“Everything changed,” Hebat Allah says.
“The institute provides a stable income, allowing me to support my children without relying on others or debt.”
The Novo Project bridges the gap created by the Syrian crisis, offering young people the skills they need to enter the workforce or establish their businesses.
As Syria rebuilds, their contributions are vital for a more peaceful and sustainable future.
