Within the increasing number of the affected people resulting from the deteriorating situation in Syria, the workload weighing heavily down SARC’s Psychological Support Team. These huge tasks prompted the team to develop its staff members’ skills, so to carry out the psychological care services perfectly.
Based on the need for skills development, The Syrian Arab Red Crescent and in cooperation with the UNICEF, organized four day training course in Damascus with title of “Therapeutic interventions & Consultations”. The course targeted the psychological multidisciplinary clinics’ team, and provided training to Aleppo clinic’s psychological specialists, mobile teams’ technical specialists and consultations centers.
The theoretical part of the training explained basic information about: beneficiaries interview skills, the tasks of the psychological multidisciplinary clinic’s doctors, the right psychological treatment methods, the medicaments interventions and the most common Psychiatric disorder in situations of war and crisis.
The practical part of the training involved practical training in the psychological multidisciplinary clinic. “The training goal isn’t limited to abstract information, but to organize the team work mechanism that bind each staff member with certain tasks to carry out” said Dr. Fayzeh Abdullah, the coordinator of psychological support program. Dr. Abdullah assured that the setting up psychological multidisciplinary clinic amongst the prevailing hard times in Syria is considered an achievement itself. However, we insist on training to promote the team’ skills and experiences.
Abdulnasser Mafaalani, the psychological multidisciplinary clinic’s coordinator, noted that the course aimed to manage an experience exchange in the mentioned field.
Mr. Hamzzeh Al-Shaikh, the mobile team technical specialist recommended the positive results of the training “Being psychological specialists we need these type of training to promote our skills and develop our scientific and practical experiences, as well as to set up a well-organized work mechanism that help to deliver the best socio-psychological support services” Al-Shaikh said.
