President of the Syrian Arab Red Cross, Dr. Abdul Rrahman Attar met with Mr. Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, who was in three days visit to Damascus.
Dr. Attar discussed issues of bond cooperation between the two organizations, and ensured the necessity to enhance the mutual exerted efforts in response to the increasing humanitarian needs, and to alleviate affected people’s suffering.
Dr. Attar accompanied Mr. Maurer in a field visit to Barzh area in the north east of Damascus. The visit aimed to viewing the various services delivered by SARC in the city like: humanitarian aids distribution, water & sanitation services and health care.
Mr. Maurer visited “Adnan Al-Marabany” dispensary in Barzeh, and met with the local representatives there. The Syrian Arab Red Crescent, supported by the ICRC and in collaboration with all parties in Barzeh, works on the rehabilitation of the mentioned dispensary. Therefore, the dispensary is expected provide health care services to about 25000 people. It worth mentioning that SARC’s mobile health clinics are currently provide health care services in that area.
In the same area of Barzeh, Mr. Maurer visited “Saaddallah Wannous” sheltering Centre, which was supported by SARC and ICRC in rehabilitation process. Mr. Maurer met with the families there that total to 60 family. He also visited one of SARC’s stores, where urgent aids of food and non-food are distributed to all affected and in need people.
On his side, Mr. Maurer expressed his appreciation to the exerted efforts by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the challenges faced by his member staff to deliver aids to affected people all over the country. He finally thanked the SARC for his close cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross that aimed to respond to the increasing humanitarian appeals.
