Cash Assistance Alleviates Burden for Chronic Hepatitis B Patient

July 29, 2024
in Idleb, On Home, SARC Stories
1 min read

Murhaf, a 32-year-old resident of rural Idlib, has been struggling to manage the financial strain of his hepatitis B treatment while also caring for his family of four.
Diagnosed in 2021, the high cost of medication has exacerbated the challenges posed by his temporary seasonal work, a consequence of the ongoing crisis.

Cash assistance from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent has provided much-needed relief.
Murhaf is one of 342 individuals in rural Idlib to receive support in 2024. The program aims to help chronic patients, including those with tumors, kidney disease, quadriplegia, and cerebral atrophy, continue their treatment. The International Committee of the Red Cross funds the initiative.

Alongside financial assistance, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent has conducted awareness campaigns reaching 489 people in 11 towns and villages since July 2024. These campaigns focus on hepatitis B symptoms, transmission, and treatment. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies supports this outreach effort.
