Position title: Accounting Unit Manager (full-time).
Based in: SARC HQ in Damascus with visits to all Syrian governorates
Purpose: The accounting unit manager is responsible for supervising and leading the processing of transactional finance accounting for SARC. The Chief Accountant will ensure the implementation of accounting activities, policies and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Operational Roles and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the implementation of adequate internal control parameters designed to safeguard the assets of the Society and ensure the validity and accuracy of the Organization’s financial information. 2. Ensure preparation of cheques according to policies and procedures, and maintenance of cheques within internal control parameters. 3. Monitor compliance of financial accounting activities with national and international accounting standards. 4. Supervise operations generated in accounts payable and accounts receivable and highlight any identified or potential risk. 5. Post, finalize and update accounting transactions in the Journal. 6. Ensure SARC’s cash flow is adequate to allow effective operations through scheduling process payment dates and approving payment vouchers. 7. Review and post transactions to clear interim account. 8. Generate “Audit Trail” reports for the period. 9. Supervise the physical inventory count activity and handle identified discrepancies. 10. Review, investigate, and correct errors including petty cash discrepancies as well as inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports received. 11. Supervise the Fixed Assets purchase and management process for accuracy. 12. Review and ensure timely and accurate payroll activity and liaise with Human Resources to clarify and/or resolve potential payroll issues. 13. Review, finalize and post accruals, provisions and reserves transactions. 14. Review and update Chart of Accounts to ensure accurate recording of transactions. 15. Review and approve all transactions to be posted to the General Ledger directly while identifying amendments when needed. 16. Close the General Ledger at period end.
- Review and analyze financial statements and management reports; amend if necessary. People Management Roles and Responsibilities 1. Provide leadership and direction to Accountants towards the achievement of goals and objectives. 2. Guide, motivate, and evaluate Accountants on their performance, productivity and progress, while identifying training needs of team members. 3. Ensure that team members acquire the required skills and knowledge through appropriate training programs.
Qualifications:
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Economics or related field
- Master’s in a relevant field or MBA or Chartered Professional Accountant is a plus
