SARC was founded in 1942 according to the decrees No/540/ 1942 and No/117/ 1966 which regulate the Organization’s work. It was recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva (ICRC) in 1946, and is committed to upholding the Geneva Conventions and the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies.

Danish Red Cross has been present in Syria since 2006 and our primary partnership is with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC). SARC bears a central role in supporting the most vulnerable people affected by conflict, across the frontlines and in hard-to-reach areas. Danish Red Cross is supporting SARC in the effective and efficient delivery of healthcare, psychosocial support, and relief and recovery services to the Syrian population and in becoming more generally a strong humanitarian and recovery actor. DRC also supports the Palestine Red Crescent Society branch in Syria (PRCS-S) in their support to the Palestinian population in Syria. The Administration Officer position in Danish Red Cross (DRC) forms part of the Country Office. The Administration Officer works under the supervision of the Country Manager and Country Finance Delegate to ensure effective and timely administrative management, contributing to financial administrative tasks, of Danish Red Cross (DRC) supported programmes.
MAIN TASKS
Country Office Administration (70%)
Under the overall supervision of the Country Manager, the Administration Officer will:
§ Maintain the CO asset register.
§ Manage office supply inventory including stationery and water, ensuring relevant supplies are
maintained in stock.
§ Lead on the administration for travel arrangements for DRC staff, specifically car and hotel booking.
§ Lead on the administrative requirements for the visa application process for DRC delegates and visitors
and keep an updated overview of visa validity. Directly liaise with IFRC and SARC on visa requirements
and processes.
§ Maintain records of lease agreements for premises rented for DRC delegates and support landlord
communication, lease renewals, and housing searches as required.
§ Facilitate and support routine and light maintenance of DRC-leased facilities.
§ Ensure regular monitoring and follow-up of maintenance needs in delegates’ residences, including
organizing and supervising repairs through external service providers.
§ Conduct periodic visits to delegates’ accommodations to ensure compliance with safety and security
standards, identifying risks and taking corrective actions as needed.
§ Maintain proper documentation and tracking of maintenance requests and interventions to ensure
timely resolution and account
Country Office Financial Administration (30%)
Under the overall supervision of the Country Finance Delegate, the Administration Officer will:
§ Processing and timely book-keeping of expenditure data.
§ Ensure monthly reporting of country office accounts including reconciliations for petty cash, bank, and
intercompany account.
§ Maintain financial records/documentation and an appropriate and efficient financial filing system
according to the filling system guidelines.
§ Process Country Office payments.
§ Support annual audits of Country Office Accounts and associated action plans.
§ Manage the petty cash float of the country office.
§ Any other duties as assigned by the Country Manager and Country Finance Delegate.
Communication
§ Day to day communication with the DRC Country Manager
§ Day to day communication with the DRC Country Finance Delegate
§ Coordination and regular communication with the DRC staff in the country office, Regional Office and at
HQ
§ Communication with the relevant staff of SARC
§ Communication with DRC delegates and visitors to Syria
§ Communication with IFRC
Qualifications:
§ Degree in Finance or Business Administration.
§ At least 2 years of experience relevant to the post.
§ Fluently spoken and written English and Arabic.
§ Excellent communication, planning, and administration skills.
§ Experience with financial administrative tasks.
§ Excellent understanding of maintenance requirements and solutions.
§ Good cultural understanding and the ability to build confidence with partners.
§ Good networking skills.
§ Excellent team spirit.
