With an aim to limit the spread of Hepatitis A in sheltering centers, SARC – Aleppo health promotion team has held a training workshop on Hepatitis A for volunteers of the team. The workshop involved a briefing on the liver’s anatomy and physiology as well as hepatitis A virus (HAV), clinical manifestations, means of transmission, risk factors, symptoms, treatment, prevention and the messages that volunteers must hold for the affected communities during awareness raising sessions. The number of participating volunteers was 35.
Hepatitis A is one of the diseases related to water and sanitation and hygiene (WASH). The scarcity of safe water, hygiene services insufficiency and the regression in self-hygiene are the most important reasons of HAV infection.
It is mention worthy that health promotion program is carried out in collaboration with UNICEF.
