Today the Syrian Arab Red Crescent is reaching Ar-Rukban Camp as part of joint aid convoy with United Nations to deliver lifesaving humanitarian assistance to 50.000 people.
The joint aid convoy was planned to be delivered last week, and has be delayed due to logistics issues and security concerns.
78 trucks are delivering 10.475 food parcels and flour bags, clothes for 18.000 children, 10.075 hygiene kits and plastic sheets, newborn baby kits for 1200 children, medicines, medical supplies and nutritional supplements for children and women.
A team will conduct vaccination campaign for children in the camp.
“We managed to deliver the first convoy to Ar-Rukban Camp after obtaining approvals and guarantees from all parties facilitated by the Syrian government. Delivery of food and non-food assistance is a huge positive step for the people there, and SARC will spare no efforts to fulfill its humanitarian mandate to help the affected Syrians and meet their huge needs” said Eng.Khaled Hboubati, President of SARC.
Ali Al-Za’tari is expected to take three to four days. “Today, we are delivering food, water, sanitation and hygiene, nutrition, core relief items and some health assistance in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. We are also conducting an emergency vaccination campaign to protect some 10,000 children against Measles, Polio and other deadly diseases,” said Ali Al-Za’tari, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in the Syrian Arab Republic.
Thousands of Syrians in the camp are suffering from severe lack of food, medical services are virtually do not exist, there is lack of access to safe drinking water, sanitary installations and adequate housing.
SARC has repeatedly called upon the involved parties to provide adequate guarantees to ensure the safe passage for SARC volunteers and staff to be able to assess the humanitarian situation which has now been granted.
