The Syrian Arab Red Crescent held a workshop on 28-29 Jun 2019 aimed at discussing the modification of Sphere Standards 2018. The workshop brought 13 Sphere trainers together where they discussed the recently modified Sphere handbook, its integration among the cycle of SARC’s programs and projects, how to be used in monitoring & evaluation process and in urban areas along with many other contexts. They also developed a new plan for Sphere training and had a look over the Arabic edition of the handbook training kit. It is worth mentioning that the workshop is supported by the British Red Cross.
In the context of its humanitarian response in #Daraa governorate, the #SyrianArabRedCrescent dispatched a humanitarian aid convoy, supported by the World Food Program to Daraa Al-Balad area on 16/6/2019. The convoy consisted of 32 trucks loaded with 6,500 Food parcels and 6500 flour bags in order to meet the basic needs of the people there through an immediate distribution process, which is going on currently. After the seventh day to her delivery, the #SyrianArabRedCrescent was present to assist Um Karim (36 y), who gave birth to triplets. 6 years ago, due to the tough crisis, Um Karim left her home in Sanamayn, Daraa, and moved to her parents’ home in Lattakia. Since then, she has suffered tough circumstances that became tougher after she delivered the triplets. A year ago, when Abdulrahman (14 y) was on his way to buy some groceries shrapnel hit him in the cervical vertebra causing him stiffness in his upper part. His parents took him to the health care center of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent where he has gone through physiotherapy for five months. The time passed slowly and tough before he could overcome his illness. During that time, he practiced his hobby in reading poetry which was the sole leverage and memorized many beautiful poems. Since he was a child, love of work has created an incentive to Abo-Loai to repair broken appliances at home and gain, through time, useful experience for a sustainable livelihood. Years ago, he has lost his right leg due to an accident left him with a prosthesis. However, the artificial limb was broken under the heavy burdens carried out by the 50-years-man.
