A Central Training Course for SARC water and sanitation teams


The SARC organized a training course for water and sanitation team over five days this month, to equip volunteers with the skills to react quickly when communities need water or sanitation help. The training covered both theory and practical skills.  At the end of the training the volunteers receive field training and conduct a visit to water local boards pumping station in al-Mazraa area – Damascus. The aim of this training was to increase knowledge of water tank installation processes and improve SARC volunteers’ expertise to respond quickly and coordinate with the Water authorities. Clashes prevent humanitarian aid convoys from reaching people in need


On 27/8/2014 a Syrian Arab Red Crescent humanitarian aid convoy was exposed to mortar shells which hindered the SARC team’s work. The convoy had reached the northern areas of Daraa governorate with 14 trucks loaded with 3000 food parcels and 3000 hygiene kits. The shells started falling in the vicinity of the convoy during the unloading process, which led to the injury of one of the workers from the local community and serious injuries to five other workers. Following-up visit to the needs of the SARC’s dispensary in Dwailaa


A team of delegates from the Swedish Red Cross, Danish Red Cross and the IFRC’s Health delegate in Syria paid a visit to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent dispensary in Dwailaain order follow up and recognize the supplies needed for this dispensary. The dispensary Manger, Dr. Nour Huda Sbenati, briefed the team about the whole dispensary’s departments: waiting room, reception offices (in which patients take an identification card to fulfill with personal information), the accounting department. International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement deplores deaths of two more Red Crescent volunteers in Syria


The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is shocked by the deaths of Syrian Arab Red Crescent volunteers Quteiba Abdallah and Wassim Mohammed Qassoha, which occurred in the line of duty on 6 and 22 April, respectively. The deaths were confirmed just two days ago. Two further volunteers injured in April remain in critical condition. In total, 36 Syrian Arab Red Crescent and seven Palestine Red Crescent Society volunteers and staff have lost their lives since the beginning of the conflict in Syria while carrying out humanitarian activities. World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day: Syrian Arab Red Crescent Volunteers on the Frontlines


Amid the deteriorating humanitarian situation, Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) volunteers remain active on frontlines across Syria. Together with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), volunteers continue to defy the challenges faced in delivering neutral and impartial humanitarian assistance to millions of people in need.
