Today, SARC – Aleppo branch hosted Ms. Elizabeth Hoff, WHO Representative, in Syria, accompanied by Director of WHO HQ Emergency Operations, Director of WHO Health Emergencies Programme and a delegation from WHO office, where they met with several members of SARC- Aleppo board of directors, management members of the branch and the health representative. Future plans and several joint projects for the health department between SARC and WHO were discussed during the meeting.

Disaster management unit at SARC Swaida Branch held a training course on the principals of disasters management, which included several topics such as (disaster concept and preparedness – urgent needs assessment – basics of psycho-social support – water and reconstruction – restoring family links – health in emergencies – emergency shelters establishing). The training carried out for five days, with the attendance of 22 volunteers from Shahba sub-branch, in order to enable them to respond to emergencies and to offer help to whom in need. To be mentioned, the training was supported by the British Red Cross.
With the need to rehabilitate and support the affected neighborhoods, Shelter team of SARC – Aleppo branch headed to Bustan AL-Basha area to assess the affected houses and the needs of the families there. 500 wooden shelter kits will be installed in order to provide the basic protection and privacy with the support of UNHCR.
On a two-day visit, SARC – Aleppo received the UNFPA representative in Syria, Mr. Massimo Diana, who, along with the accompanied delegation from the UNFPA sub-office in Aleppo, met with the Aleppo branch’s management and board of managers. The meeting was followed by joint field visits to Fafin, north Aleppo countryside, and Abu Dhor and Bwaider, south Aleppo countryside, with an aim to address the needs and evaluate the humanitarian situation there.
