Boukra Ahla (Tomorrow is more beautiful) SARC-PSS in Douma city, launched its first activities after a hiatus of five months and received 42 children on May 13, 2018. The activities included entertainments, drawing, handmade and music classes. Noura (11) is so happy that the center reopened and she can enjoy time along with her friends there. “As Tomorrow is more beautiful center is reopened, all days will be beautiful” she said.
SARC’s water and construction teams secured clean water in Ad-Dwair shelter while health awareness promotion teams reached out more than 250 children through didactic and entertainment activities directed at health promotion and lice prevention. They also held awareness sessions on personal hygiene with the participation of 150 teenagers and 300 adults daily. These activities included distribution of 6442 anti-lice shampoo, 3000 anti-lice spray, 5567 hygiene kits, 8523 baby diapers, 13460 sanitary towels, 248 adult diapers, 3871 personal hygiene kits, 1134 buckets, 100 cleaning items and 512 jerrycans. With great sorrow and regret, SARC mourns the death of volunteer, Fayez Matar Al-Hamad, who while in line of duty, martyred due to a road accident, took place in Beit Yashout, caused him a severe injury on March 31, 2018. It is worth mentioning that Fayez (46) joined SARC- Hama branch in 2010. SARC extends deep condolences to his family, friends and colleagues in Hama branch.
In the framework of capacity building for volunteers, SARC held a training workshop for the coordinators and assistants working in the information management department. This workshop aimed to enhance the methodological and practical knowledge of database principles using MS-Access program, which lead to well-organized data process. The 5-day workshop, which launched on May 1, 2018, included theoretical explanation focusing on database and the proper analysis way, in addition to a practical application to the mentioned program.
A delegation from the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations paid a visit to SARC on 7-10 May 2018. The delegation, headed by Jean-Louis de Brouwer, (DG ECHO/Director for Europe, Eastern. Neighbourhood and Middle East), met Eng. Khaled Hboubati, SARC President, where they discussed various topics related to SARC services and ways of cooperation between the two organizations. The delegation visited also SARC branch in Homs and makeshift shelters in Rural Damascus that have received people from Eastern Ghouta.
