Humanitarian Relief Aid is distributed to recently displaced People in Damascus

348 displaced families benefited from humanitarian relief aid distributed by the SARC – Damascus branch during May 2017 at Maysat center. The relief items contained (food parcels, canned food, Hygiene Kits, kitchen sets, mattresses, blankets, Sleeping Mats, Jerry Cans, Plastic Sheets, Buckets, Clothes for Children and Baby Diapers). It is worth to mention that the previous items were supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), German Red Cross (GRC), the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)


“No more lice” campaign by SARC- Homs Branch


  SARC Homs Health Promotion team concluded an awareness campaign titled “No more Lice” for schools’ students , sheltering centers’ residents and Homs countryside. It aimed to enhance proper hygiene behavior and to reduce lice infection through awareness sessions and brochures. The campaign was launched in cooperation with ICRC and targeted 23718 beneficiaries.  


Anti-leishmania Awareness Campaign in Al-Qaryatein


Health Promotion team in SARC Homs branch launches annual awareness campaigns at the beginning of each summer to prevent Leishmaniasis through raising awareness and providing the local community preventive items. Leishmaniasis is caused by the bite of certain types of sandflies which spread during summer. In summer 2016, Hussam from Qaryatein contracted Leishmaniasis on his face and hand. Through one awareness session, Hussam’s family and other returning families managed to know the causes, ways of transmission and ways of treatment. Humanitarian Relief aid for 44 thousand people in Jairoud


On 21st May, 2017, SARC Rural Damascus branch delivered a humanitarian aid convoy (41 Trucks) loaded with relief items to Jairoud, Atna and Al Nasrya areas, for 44 thousand people in cooperation with ICRC and UN offices. The relief items, which are provided by ICRC, WFP, UNICEF, WHO, UNHCR,  contained 8850 food parcels, 8850 flour bags, 5450 kitchen parcels, 2500 hygiene kits, 8125 blankets, medical and nutrition items, safe birth kits, baby milk and clothes.


SARC Homs Hospital Opens Ophthalmic surgery Ward


On Thursday 25th May, ophthalmic surgery ward was opened in SARC Homs Hospital. Dr. Motaz Al Atassi, the Hospital Medical Manager, said that the operation room is equipped with the most modern equipment for eye surgery according to international standards. He also stressed that all  ophthalmic surgery doctors  are welcomed to use the ward and conduct eye surgeries. It is worth mentioning that the hospital was opened in the beginning of 2015 and new specializations will be opened in the near future.
